27th-Dec-2009 12:20 pm - Roadside Romeo Out!
I've been waiting for a while for this film to be released in the US. I don't think the previous foreign Disney film (Mexican?) was ever released. Roadside Romeo looked like a lot of fun from the "casting call" preview they had out. Thanks to [info]brerandalopex, I found out that it's out on US DVD!

I found the film on Amazon and I've already ordered it (film night, Tracy? Roz?).

Brer mentioned that there was a cute extra on the disk, showing a music video with the costumed characters they made for it. They're neat costumes-- I'm almost sure they were made by Custom Characters here in Glendale.

26th-Dec-2009 08:18 am - Post Christmas
Reading on the CNN site this morning about the thwarted terrorist attack on the airplane.  It's heartening to know that after 9/11 American passengers don't just sit there like sheep, but will actively work together to subdue potential terrorists.  I like how the description in the article said that the potential terrorist 'had his pants open and something between his legs."  I think Howard Stern will have fun with this one.

Christmas yesterday was fairly quiet.  This was a severe poverty Christmas, but at least the one gift I got mom & brother made it OK.  Dad didn't get his because he closed his old PO box and didn't tell me.  Hopefully the thing will get returned here so i can send it off again.  I also went to visit Mike and Tracy briefly, and cooked something resembling a Christmas dinner.

Doing some more temp receptionist work at my friend's stage Christmas Eve, and probably Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Finally finished up the latest round of commissions (some of them posted on FA here), so it'sback to work on doing the City of Ice tones..

As one of my to-do art projects, I've decided to finish Mr. Brightside, which has been shelved for over a year.  When I'm done with the Ice tones I'll be working to complete that.

Christmas weather has been very nice but cold (into the 30's early morning.)

The cats didn't care for what I gave them this morning, and both Sugar and Jaspurr have been repeatedly trying to 'bury' it.
26th-Dec-2009 07:22 am - PS3
 I has it.

Setting up now.
26th-Dec-2009 02:50 am - A return to LJ with some complaints
First off, let me start by saying Christmas was awesome, to the party on Christmas Eve where I got a little bit drunk and/or stoned to Christmas Day itself when I got less drunk/stoned but still enough to be in bed before midnight... But yes, I have returned to LJ over Facebook and Twitter.

I'm not going to use Facebook anywhere because: I use my real name on there for some reason and all my family members are on it so I can't be myself really.

I'm still going to use Twitter, but I really can't see the point in it.

So, here we go. Complaining time!

I got Left 4 Dead 2 and Dragon Age: Origins for Christmas (both for the 360, 'nach) and Left 4 Dead 2 is awesome... but Dragon Age? Who knows? I don't that for sure because it's only gone and pulled an Assassin's Creed 2 on me... For those of you who don't read my facebook that's when my xbox 360 just chooses a game at random to just not read... ever... Admittedly with some determination and trickery we could get the xbox 360 to read Assassin's Creed 2 eventually... Dragon Age it just wont ever.

I've looked on the internet for solutions and explanations and people have been saying that it's either a faulty drive magnet or faulty lens reader, BUT, if that were the case then the 360 would not read any games or DVD's or anything (like our 360 did this time last year)... but no... Left 4 Dead 2, works pretty much first time every time (sometimes 2nd or 3rd time), Modern Warfare 2 works first time every time, Smackdown vs. RAW 2010, first time everytime and the same with any DVD....

But put Assassin's Creed 2 or Dragon Age inside the 360 and it just refuses to believe that there is a disc inside the machine.

Why? Why is this? What problem do I have? To be honest with you... I don't care anymore... After two of my 360's falling to the red rings of death then the 3rd falling to never reading any disc ever... the 4th xbox has just selected a few games it doesn't want to play... One of which is a game we got for Christmas, and are now going to have to sell for £20 because the xbox doesn't like it.

If it wasn't for my gold membership only just being renewed for a year a month ago, my hours of man power put into Smackdown vs. RAW and all the DLC for Rock Band I'd sell the entire bloody console and request that no one ever mention it's name in my presence again... But as long as the 360 actually read MW2, SvR2010 and Rock Band (and Left 4 Dead 2) then I'll keep the console itself.

I really wanted to find out what Dragon Age is like... oh well...

As long as GAME is open I'm selling all my 360 games (except the four I mentioned) all accessories and I'm going to use my Christmas money to buy a PS3... today.

Fuck Microsoft... Build something that actually works plz.
25th-Dec-2009 04:10 pm - Merry Christmas
Happily ensconced in Santa Rosa, surrounded by scraing kids mul.tiple dogs and cats, and tapping away occasionally on a Lappy, while Dad and the older Aunts watch the Bowl games on the flat screen, all noshing on Christmas cookies and finger food. Once again another Christmas in America. All the best to you and Yours, Merry Christmas.

24th-Dec-2009 05:18 am - Trends for the Coming year
From the generally Accurate "Trends Journal". 2010 is not loking to be an improvement, from 2009.

Get in shape, buy a gun, go to the farmer's market, and stay away from crowds.

22nd-Dec-2009 03:41 pm - Avatar, ect.

I went to see Avatar yesterday with mah homies( Tracy, Brian, Meg, Joe, and Lex) which was loads of fun.  We had to go all the way out to Simi Valley to find an IMax 3D that wasn't sold out, and even that theater was packed. I'm not sure what i can say about the flick that hasn't already been said.  The FX were flawless.  Cameron is a master of battle scenes.  The creatures were cool.  The art direction and concept was excellent.  The story... Well, I don't think anyone is going to see this movie expecting a ground-breaking story.  And if the story was a bit predictable, who cares?  The fun is in getting there.

Caveat to my right-wing buddies-- go into this prepared for the anti-colonial, pro-ecological message.  If you don't think you can handle it without having an anyerism, don't go.

And remember to blink while you're wearing those stupid 3D glasses.  i kept forgetting, and afterwards I felt like my eyeballs had been peeled.

The preview for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland actually made me want to go see it.  I was surprized.  There was also a preview for some shitty-looking Tom Cruise movie, and a trailer for How to train your Dragon, which might be good or might suck. Afterwards we went up to Valencia for dinner at Claim Jumper.  It was just like old times, which made it very bittersweet.

22nd-Dec-2009 03:03 pm - Political Correctness Rampant!
Just when I thought I'd seen it all!

Joseph Conrad's classic, The N-word of the Narcissus:

No kidding.
22nd-Dec-2009 12:47 pm - Minka's Gift
My latest story for The Daily Cabal is up. I wrote most of this one while watching 'Winterfest', a holiday celebration at Katie's school. Amy said that when she and Katie happened across the music teacher in the restroom line, that the teacher said "There's my lead singer". How nice!

Have a Very Merry Christmas, everyone.
22nd-Dec-2009 11:53 am - Kittehs don't like the wind
Very very windy and chilly today.  It looked like it might rain in the begining, but now it's mostly clear.  The kittehs hate the strong winds, and keep meowing at me like I can do something about it.
22nd-Dec-2009 07:11 pm - Cold Days Hot Nights 2
I was going to write a lengthy, non-twitter-style report on that fursuit outing from two weeks ago, about how cool and full of win it was. I mean, how often do you meet tabloid press reporters who spontaneously interview you for their news paper AND Anonymous during a fursuit outing? Doesn't happen all that often. :)

Then again, I'm tired, so I'll just drop a link to the video here. :)

Oh, and Gandalf the grey was there, too!

Fursuit walks are always fun, but this kind of 9-hour-extreme thing is awesome. I hope there's gonna be a CDHN3 soon. :)
21st-Dec-2009 06:26 pm - Solstice Menu
Appetizer: Sun dried tomato hummus with toast points.
Soup: Curried cauliflower.
Fish: Braised scallops.
Meat: Pecan crusted organic, free-range lamb (Bummer*) chops.
Veg: Spinach and mushroom quiche.
Dessert: Tart au citron.

As is our tradition, all the recipes were ones we hadn't made before. All were judged successes. Unexpectedly, the soup was the fussiest dish to make but well worth it. And the lemon tarts? Easy and awesome!

So a fairly crummy year ended on a sweet note.

21st-Dec-2009 12:00 pm - Various Stuff
Still working on commissions, but will hopefully be done with those by Christmas, then I can do the final push to get the toning done on City of Ice #6. (I'm about half done at this point.)

I probably won't have any art in the FC show.  I still love doing pictures for artshows, but I don't anticipate having much time between getting Ice #6 done and the con.  I also need to do a reprint on Ice #4.  I should have plenty of new prints at the con from commissions I've done this year (yes, the people do give me permission to sell copies), although I've heard that print sales haven't been great and most of the con money now comes from sketches.  Unfortunately I'm not a fast artist, so I don't make as much as some other people, who seem to be able to plow through a huge stack of sketchbooks in a few hours.

Finished the crappy fantasy book and also finished the latest Age of Fire book, Dragon Rule.

Watched the Survivor finale last night.  I'll admit I was rooting for Russell to win, since he made the show very interesting.  He looked really pissed off that the chick won instead.

Found out that Muse will be headlining the Coachella festival in April. (for those who don't know, Coachella is sort of an annual alt. rock Woodstock spread out over a weekend.  It's located in the high desert by 29 Palms.)   Extremely mixed feelings about that.  I have no interest in schelping out to the fucking desert  (which is brutally hot 10 months out of the year) to stand with 15 thousand drunken, rowdy teens and 20-somethings.  On the other hand, it should be an excellent show.  Maybe I can go birding at Joshua Tree park first or something.

2. How Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966): Not to take anything away from Dr. Seuss or anyone else involved in this unforgettable heart-warmer, but a special Emmy should go to whoever came up with the inspired idea of having Boris Karloff narrate.

In a satiric Youtube, the reviewer explains the importance of character and story in terms most people would understand, and then shows why leaving that behind into incomprehensibility leaves the Movie in such a state of unsatisfying confusion. Here's part 1.

I have to admit, this is one of those lessons that took me YEARS to figue out, and once I did, I realized that comic weren't for me. I draw, so that others may write.

But a lot of movies suffer from cliches and lame scripts. here's a good illustration of such:

Enjoy!

If you have a spare £1, I urge you all to download Rage Against The Machine's "Killing in The Name of"... Before Midnight! Just to spit in Simon Cowell's stupid, greedy, hypocritical and quite frankly, ugly face.

Please! Even if you don't care about what is Christmas Number 1... just give us that "oh, whose gonna be Christmas number 1 this year?" feeling back again, don't let X-Factor/Simon Cowell have it again... ;.;

(I hope you all realise how important this is as I have opened LJ again for the first time in long time)
19th-Dec-2009 09:32 am - Bad Start
Wonderful way to start the day.  First thing I see when I open my email-- an angry email from someone I sold something on EBay to demanding a refund, which I'm in no shape to afford.

Second wonderful thing: I can't get the scanner to work, and I can't mail out some artwork until I scan it, and i have no idea how to fix the scanner.

Third wonderful thing: Jaspurr's agression towards Fluffy is getting worse, and I have no idea what to do other than chase him away every time I see him bullying Fluffy.

[info]titanic  got me this fancy cel phone with texting I can't figure out how to use.

Sorry the bug pics grossed people out.  I'm making it private.
18th-Dec-2009 04:58 pm - Blast from the Past
I was watching a History channel show about WW2 German infantry weapons, and one of the scenes was a column of German soldiers coming over a hill.

It was my Ww2 re-enactor club from around 1994, and I was the last person in the formation.

The History Channel filmed us for a lot of 50th anniversary D-Day commemorative stuff, but I thought that was the end of it. Apparently I live on in Stock Film!
18th-Dec-2009 09:31 am - The best Christmas Season Ever?

Why this is the best Christmas Season ever XD

Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah to all the friends and relations out there.

Scott

P.S. as ti it being the best Christmas season ever, in truth it isn't, at least for me, but more on that later. I just thought the video made a good point
17th-Dec-2009 04:49 pm - 2009 Recap and 2010 Schedule
2009 was a pretty awesome year. I say that about every year, don't I? That's a good thing I guess. I don't make resolutions every year. I figure a good idea is good to enough to begin work on, the moment you think of it.

Work goes ahead on the current Flounce and Persia story. I'm still going back and forth on working titles, so I'm not going to publicly give it a name right now. The main thrust of the comic concerns what happens when Flounce's past bisexual ways emerge within his quaint, relaxed, matured life with Persia (not to imply that bisexuality is immature). But Flounce has sort of made that transition from the "hyper do-everything kid out of college" phase to the "relax, sip coffee in lounge pants, plan investments online" phase of manhood. Some men never reach this phase, I realize, but it's a good phase to be in when acquaintances from your earlier phases bust into your life, for the purposes of our pornography. I've settled on a pretty good, and more importantly, faster, black and white style for projects like this one. I will continue to do full color comics, but only for the heavier projects that I feel need it. And when I have lots of time. Oh, the other dude in the headlock there isn't their son.

It looks like Bonk is thinking about hitting Furry Fiesta as a good, small to medium sized, February convention to hit for some extra bread before FWA. So it looks like my list of conventions for 2010 could expand. If all goes according to plans and musings, I'll be free-floating in my usual style around FC, FF, FWA, AC, MFM, and MFM, with the tenuous possibility of being at one of the Elliot's things in Orlando, mayyyyybe FAU, but it's not looking good, and perhaps RCFM in Huntsville, AL. That's a hell of a full plate for someone who doesn't do any business at cons. But I usually have a good time.
